Kettlebell Chest Exercises
Floor pressing with a kettlebell is the most joint-friendly heavy chest work available. The floor stops the elbow travelling below the torso, so the shoulder never reaches the deep position where a bench press strains it, and the bell hanging behind the wrist forces you to keep the shoulder packed the whole time. Pressing one arm at a time also turns it into a core exercise, because the trunk has to stop the load rolling you sideways. The plyo push-up on the bells sits at the other end, training speed.
Why train chest with kettlebell
- Floor stops the elbow going deep, so shoulders stay comfortable
- One-arm pressing makes the trunk resist rotation under load
- Extended-range presses reach further than a bell held straight
- Plyo push-ups on the handles add speed work to a pressing session

Kettlebell Chest Training FAQ
Is a kettlebell floor press good for the chest?
Yes, particularly for anyone whose shoulders complain about full-range benching. The chest still does the pressing, and the shortened range means less strain at the bottom. What you lose is the stretched position that drives a good share of chest growth, so keep some full-range pressing in the plan if the shoulder tolerates it.
Why press one arm at a time?
Because the load sitting on one side of your body tries to roll your torso towards it, and stopping that turns a chest exercise into a chest and core exercise. It also means each side works through its own full range and you can see immediately if one side is weaker.
Can four exercises really train the chest?
For a kettlebell-only session, yes. Chest work needs a press and a stretch, and the floor press family covers the press while the extended-range variation covers more of the stretch. Rotate the four across sessions and add push-up variations from the bodyweight list if you want more volume.
