Best AI fitness coach apps in 2026

Almost every app in this category calls itself a coach, and almost none of them do what a coach does. A human coach programs your training, tells you what to eat, watches your form, and changes the plan when the plan stops working. Software usually picks one of those four and markets it as all of them. The table below scores the six apps on all four jobs, so you can see exactly which part of the coaching you are buying and which part you are still doing yourself.

How this comparison works

  • The first question is scope: does the app take responsibility for training and nutrition, or only for training?
  • The second is whether the plan changes after week one. A program written once is a generator, however it is marketed.
  • Prices are bands verified on the date below. Vendors change them, run regional pricing and discount annual plans.
  • This comparison covers the six apps whose pricing and feature sets we verified directly. Freeletics, FitnessAI and BodBot are also active in this category and worth your own look.
  • FitFocus is our own product, and the four things it does not do are listed as plainly as the four it does.

Questions people actually ask

What makes an app an AI fitness coach rather than a workout generator?
A generator answers the question once. A coach keeps answering it: it programs the training, covers the nutrition, shows you how each movement is performed, and changes the plan when your logs say the plan is not working. Judged that way, most apps in this category are generators with a coaching label. Fitbod, Dr. Muscle and Alpha Progression adapt but ignore food; FitFocus covers both halves but does not autoregulate loads; Hevy does neither and does not claim to.
Is there a free AI fitness coach?
Partly. FitFocus generates one complete meal plan and one complete workout program free with no card. Alpha Progression and JEFIT have permanent free tiers on the training side. Dr. Muscle has a limited free plan. Fitbod offers only a 7-day trial, so it is the one option here where you commit money before reading the plan.
Can an AI coach replace a personal trainer?
For programming and nutrition, largely yes, and at a fraction of the cost. For technique correction, not yet. Camera-based rep counting is the closest software gets and it currently covers a handful of movements. If you are learning a barbell lift from scratch, a few in-person sessions still buy you something no app in this table sells.
Do I need an AI coach that works without installing an app?
It matters most before you pay. A browser tool lets you read the actual plan it produces and decide whether the coaching is any good. Of the six here only FitFocus runs in a browser; Fitbod, Dr. Muscle, Alpha Progression, JEFIT and Hevy are all mobile-app-first.
Which AI fitness coach handles both diet and training?
Of the apps compared here, only FitFocus programs both from the same profile. The others are training-only, which means pairing them with a separate nutrition app and a second subscription. If you would rather compare the nutrition side directly, see the AI meal planner comparison.
